Continuing Education

The Florida Solar Energy Center offers a wide range of courses covering renewable energy and building energy technology topics. Most courses include both classroom instruction and hands-on field experience. In many cases, attendees can receive continuing education units (CEUs) and some courses are approved for Florida professional license renewals.

Severe Weather Information

All courses will be canceled and rescheduled if the Center closes due to severe weather. Generally, FSEC will be closed if Brevard Community College, Cocoa Campus is closed. Please call 1-866-451-1107 for up-to-date information.

No refunds or discounts will be given for participant travel expenses incurred for a cancelled course. Customers are urged to assess the storm situation before traveling to Cocoa, Florida.

The Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), acting as coordinator for the Space Coast Clean Cities Coalition, conducts alternative fuel vehicle technology training workshops. Workshops are typically held at the Center, but can be hosted by other organizations. The Coalition is an associate member of the National Alternative Fuels Training Program with West Virginia University and with Traviss Technical College.

FSEC's Buildings Research Division offers a large number of training and certification courses directed towards a variety of practitioners, professionals, and the general public.

Picture of hands on training. Fuel Cell Technology Short Course
This short course covers both basic and applied aspects of fuel cell technology through integrated lecture and laboratory sessions. The focus is on polymer electrolyte and direct methanol fuel cells. Lectures present the theory of fuel cell operation and outline the principles behind state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques. Complementary laboratory sessions provide hands-on training of fuel cell testing and performance evaluation for all participants.

Home energy ratings provide a standardized measure of energy costs and efficiency. Ratings in Florida can only be conducted by state-certified Raters using a set of nationally accredited analysis procedures and verified software tools.

For over thirty years, FSEC has conducted education, training and information exchange for photovoltaic system and distributed generation applications. Hundreds of workshops, seminars and presentations have been delivered by the FSEC PV staff in Florida, throughout the US and abroad. These courses have reached diverse groups and individuals in many countries.

The principal technology that FSEC was founded to research and support; solar thermal systems have seen great strides in efficiency and reliability since those of the 70's. Our training programs will help participants learn how to design, install, and maintain these systems for residential use.
