FSEC Named New EPA WaterSense Provider in Florida
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that the Florida Solar Energy Center has been approved by the WaterSense Program as a licensed certification provider for WaterSense labeled new homes. With the release of the Final Single-Family New Homes Specification in December 2009, builders across the country can apply to earn the WaterSense label for their new homes. FSEC's Dr. Subrato Chandra Retires
Dr. Chandra began his career at FSEC in 1976. He became acting director of the R&D division in 1982, and then permanent director in 1985. In 2001, Dr. Chandra stepped down from the director’s position to focus on the U.S. DOE BAIHP project. His leadership of the BAIHP team and work with builder partners has beneficially impacted the construction of nearly 200,000 homes throughout the U.S., including several zero and near zero energy homes and the first Builders Challenge home. |
FSEC to Advise Team Florida in 2011 Solar Decathlon
FSEC will assist in an advisory capacity to Team Florida students in next year’s Solar Decathlon. The U.S. DOE Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are affordable, energy-efficient, and attractive. Team Florida is a multi-disciplinary team representing four major Florida Research Universities: USF, FSU, UCF, and UF.
