The portable classrooms have gray asphalt shingle roofs. The gabled roof consists of two segments: one 36' 3" x 15' 9" and 36' 3" x 11' 9". Over the course the day, the roof system temperatures fluctuate with the hottest part of the day being between 12:00 - 2:00 pm. The data plot graphs show these fluctuations. For portable 035 the roof surface's maximum temperature is 138° F, the decking's maximum temperature is 127.3° F, while the attic's maximum temperature is 120.1° F. This graph is from the 14th of May and prior to the retrofit.
The photograph on the right is the gray asphalt shingle roof of portable 035. The IR photo on the left shows that the roof is the hottestpart of the exterior building. The temperature range is from 65.1° F (darkest colors) to 101° F (lightest colors).
The photo on the right is the gray asphalt shingled roof of portable 035 while the left hand IR picture shows how the roof radiates heat onto the body of an FSEC employee. The temperature range of the IR photo is 78.9° F (darkest colors) to 96.9° F (lightest colors).
The two photos on the right show the metal edge of the roofs while the left hand IR photos demonstrate the temperature differences between the metal edge (white) and the wood just below it (yellow-green). The temperature range is 79.5° F (darkest colors) to 97.5° F (lightest colors).
